Höfen is the gateway to the Eifel National Park and a popular stopping point on cycling and hiking tours. The Schäfchenrunde, for example, passes through Höfen (9km / 14km), also known as “Water-Wool-Shale Stones.” The third stage of the Eifelsteig long-distance trail also passes directly through our small village.

Höfen is known for its beech hedges and daffodils. Accordingly, the Daffodil Route (14.8 km), a partner trail of the Eifelsteig, begins almost right on the doorstep.

Weitere Partnerwege nur wenige Autominuten entfernt sind die Heckenlandroute (14,5km), Klosterrunde (22,3km), Wasserlandroute (16,7km) und Struffeltroute (9,7km).

On the National Park Eifel homepage, you will find plenty of tips for your leisure activities, from guided hiking tours and official mountain biking routes to riding trails, ski tracks, and starry nights.

Even the Aachen CityRegion provides you with tips on museums, high ropes courses, and winter sports. It offers a hiking guide, a cycling guide, and an interactive tour planner.

At Lake Rur, you can not only hike and cycle, but also enjoy a variety of watersports: rent a kayak, canoe, or stand-up paddleboard locally. Those who prefer a more leisurely experience might opt for a pedalo – or even take a ride across the water on one of the Rursee ferries. Rental points can be found in Woffelsbach, Rurberg, and Schwammenauel.

Are you seeking a sporty challenge amidst beautiful scenery? Then we highly recommend the Monschau Marathon (also with an ultra-distance) as well as the Rursee Marathon for runners or mountain bikers. Shorter, but still only for the hardy, is the Belgenbach Trail “Eifel-Extrem” at the start of the season.
